Biography
Education and Credentials: Greetings and welcome to my home page. For those of you who don't know me here is a little bit about my background, education and passions. After graduation from Onamia High School in 1997 I attended Bemidji State University where I recieved my degree in elementary education with an emphasis in math and language arts.
Immediately after graduating from BSU I traveled to beautiful Colorado where I taught middle school math for 2 years in a small school district just east of Denver called Bennett. During my time there I also coached middle school and high school football and wrestling.
I enjoyed my time in Colorado but my love for Minnesota is to great to stay away and so I returned after 2 years and took a job teaching middle school math and reading in the small town of Indus. This tiny community is located literally less than a mile from the Canadian border on the beautiful Rainy River. Not many schools can claim they can throw a rock from their front doors to Canada.
Once again I enjoyed my time in Indus however, while I was there my dream of being closer to where I grew up came true with the opportunity to teach in Aitkin. I jumped at the chance and have been teaching at Rippleside since the fall of 2005. I started off teaching in 4th grade but currently I am teaching 6th grade math. In 2012 I finished my masters degree from Southwest State University. I have grown so much as a teacher during my time in Aitkin. The staff, students and community here in Aitkin are made up of some of the warmest and compassionate people I have ever met.
Hobbies: During my free time I enjoy doing just about anything outdoors. I am a huge fisherman, hunter and nature enthusiast. I was at one time a coach of 3 sports but now just coach boy golf in the spring. I enjoy all the seasons that our great state experiences but definitely like spring the best. Most times if I am not doing something related to school you can find me in a hunting blind or on a fishing trip somewhere. My fishing adventures many times take me to different states and even out of the country at times. I live for the adventure of a good quality trip, whether it be to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or catching some jumbo Perch on Winnibigoshish.
Family: In 2012 my girlfriend Heidi and I were blessed with the birth of a beautiful daughter who we named Isabelle. She is the light of our life and amazes us every day we are with her. Heidi is the greatest mother a daughter could ask for. She is loving, caring, strong, free spirited, happy and always ready to do whatever it takes to give our girl the best.
The is so much I have learned from both of these wonderful women in my life. Heidi has taught me about quality communication and what it can do for any relationship. Now I can't say that I am a master at it (extremely far from it) but its a work in progress and in the times I have been able to communicate well the results have been amazing. Isabelle has taught me many things as well. She has taught me patience, compassion, compromise, strength and how to survive days and nights with little to no sleep.
